How to Optimize Your Content Writing to Increase Your Online Presence
Remember when AI writing tools first came out, and everyone got excited about churning out content at lightning speed?
While AI has indeed become the force multiplier for some industries, as it was touted to be, we have unfortunately run into a wall.
We are producing more output now, but the quality is not as high as it was before. We have chosen quantity over quality. We have essentially spammed supposed great works, but ultimately, it’s caused more fatigue.
I know we’ve all been reading that content a lot lately, and it’s starting to feel a bit worn out!
If you've been scrolling through LinkedIn lately, reading business blogs, or even just checking out websites. You've probably noticed something. That is, it all sounds the same. Generic, afe, somehow both wordy and empty at the same time. That’s because AI does not push the boundaries. It agrees with the prompter, and it takes you to the median.
That's what happens when we let AI do all the heavy lifting.
And if you're a business owner trying to stand out, this is actually good news. Because while everyone else is publishing robot-speak, you have a chance to sound like an actual human.
The AI Content Hangover
People are getting tired of reading AI-generated content, but more concerning, they're starting to lose trust in the places they find it.
When everything sounds like it was written by the same overly-enthusiastic marketing bot, nothing feels real. Nothing feels trustworthy. It also makes you skeptical of the insights and advice they are posting.
You can spot AI content from a mile away now:
It uses phrases like "in today's fast-paced world" and "it's important to note."
It lists everything in threes
It sounds knowledgeable, but somehow says nothing specific
It has that weird formal-but-trying-to-be-casual tone
It never takes a real stance on anything
And it is never bold enough to take a stance
When you start to utilize the same tools as everyone else, it becomes harder to establish your work and have your voice stand out.
Your potential clients are reading this stuff and thinking, "I can't tell who or what this business really is." You lose your signal and become the noise.
Trust is the Real Currency
When you're running a service-based business, people aren't just buying your service. They're buying your approach. Your insights. They are buying the experience of working with you.
They need to trust you before they'll ever hire you.
Trust doesn't come from generic content that sounds like everyone else. Trust comes from content that shows you're a real, reliable professional who actually understands their problems.
AI can't do that. Only you can. So own it.
What "Human Writing (With AI Help)" Actually Means
I'm not saying to throw away your AI tools. I use them too. However, there's a right way and a wrong way to use them.
Wrong way: Feed AI a prompt, copy-paste the output, and hit publish. This is what everyone's doing. This is what's making the internet boring. That makes you boring.
Right way: Use AI as your thinking partner, not your replacement. Let it help you outline ideas. Let it suggest different angles. Use it to clean up your rough drafts. But never let it replace your voice, your stories, your actual insights.
The best content in 2026 will be human-led and AI-assisted. Not the other way around.
What Makes Writing Feel Human
Human writing has specifics. It has opinions. It has personality.
AI will tell you, "It's important to have a strong online presence."
A human will tell you, "I lost a $10K client last month because my website looked like I'd abandoned it in 2019."
See the difference?
Human writing also admits when it doesn't know something. It changes its mind. It tells stories that don't have perfect endings. It uses sentence fragments sometimes because that's how people actually think.
For business owners reading this, ask yourself: when was the last time you read something online that made you think "Wow, this person gets it"? I'd bet it wasn't written entirely by AI.
How to Keep Your Content Human
Start with your own words. Always. Even if they're messy. Even if the grammar isn't perfect, get your actual thoughts down first. Throw it all on the board, then we can start panning for gold.
Tell real stories. What happened with an actual client that made you think? What mistake did you make that taught you something?
Use AI to polish, not to create. Let it help you structure your ideas. Let it catch typos. Let it suggest a better way to phrase something. But the core ideas? Those need to come from you.
Take a stance. AI plays it safe. You don't have to. If you have an opinion about how your industry does something wrong, say it. That's what makes people trust you. When you're willing to be honest, even when it's not the "safe" answer.
AI speaks with the intent of returning serves indefinitely, avoiding risk, and smashing for a win.
Read it out loud. If you wouldn't say it to a client over coffee, rewrite it. Human writing sounds like how humans actually talk, not with polished clinical cleanliness.
Do not confuse cleanliness with being devoid of your personality or brand voice.
The Window is Open Right Now
Here's what I'm seeing: while most businesses are pumping out AI-generated content, there's a huge opportunity for the businesses that sound real.
Your potential clients are drowning in generic content. They're craving authenticity, something human. They want to work with real people who have real expertise and aren't afraid to show it.
2026 is the year we remember that people buy from people. Not from chatbots. Not from businesses that sound like every other business.
The businesses that will win this year are the ones that use AI as a tool but never let it replace their humanity.
Let's Make Your Content Actually You
Generic content is everywhere. What's rare is a business owner willing to show up with their actual perspective, their stories, their insights, and their honest take on the work.
That's exactly what we help you do.
Once your website is live, we work with you to capture your voice and turn it into content worth reading. You bring the perspective. We do the writing.
Your actual perspective has real value. Let's make sure people can find it.
